Comedy Hypnosis Show Myrtle Beach: The Cow Milking Contest

Grown adults fighting over an imaginary cow. That’s a normal night at my comedy hypnosis show Myrtle Beach, live at the Wonders Theatre at Broadway at the Beach.

The Cow Milking Contest at My Comedy Hypnosis Show in Myrtle Beach

Here’s the setup. A row of hypnotized volunteers each gets a cow. The cow doesn’t exist. The bucket doesn’t exist either. The competition, however, is deadly serious to everybody on that stage, and that’s where the comedy lives.

I don’t tell anyone how to milk a cow. I don’t need to. Every volunteer brings their own idea of what a dairy farmer looks like, and no two are the same. One person is gentle and patient. Another is pumping away like the barn’s on fire. Somebody always gets kicked by a cow that isn’t there.

Vacationers come to Myrtle Beach for the ocean, the golf and the pancakes. They don’t expect to end their night on a farm. Yet night after night at the Wonders Theatre, somebody’s husband, best friend or bachelorette becomes the most competitive milker on the Grand Strand.

The clip below is the moment right after the contest ends. The volunteers are still deep in trance, slumped in their chairs, and there’s clearly a hands-down winner.

Comedy Hypnosis at the Wonders Theatre, Broadway at the Beach

If you’ve been to Broadway at the Beach, you already know the area. Shops, restaurants, the lake, the boardwalk. The Wonders Theatre is right there on Celebrity Circle, which makes the comedy hypnosis show an easy add to a Myrtle Beach night out. Eat, walk, laugh until your face hurts, then head back to the hotel.

The show is 18 and over. It’s rated R for ridiculous, not for filth. Expect loud, silly, unpredictable comedy built entirely around volunteers from the audience, so no two nights are ever the same. The cow milking contest might be in your show. It might be something even stranger.

What’s Happening in the Volunteers’ Minds

People ask me all the time if this stuff is real. Fair question. I wrote a whole piece on whether stage hypnosis is real, but the short version is this: hypnosis is focused attention. When a volunteer accepts the suggestion that there’s a cow in front of them, their imagination does the heavy lifting.

Think about the last time a movie made you jump. You knew it wasn’t real. Your body jumped anyway. Hypnosis works on a similar principle, just with the dial turned way up and the critical voice in your head turned way down.

That’s why the reactions are so honest. Nobody’s acting. Actors would plan it, polish it, play to the back row. Hypnotized volunteers just milk the cow.

And no, I can’t make anyone do something they’d hate. That’s a myth I tackle in can a hypnotist make you do anything. Milking a pretend cow in front of a packed Myrtle Beach theater is silly. It’s not a moral crisis. That’s exactly why volunteers go along with it.

Why Some Volunteers Go Deeper Than Others

Every show, a few volunteers fall into trance faster and harder than the rest. They’re usually the ones with vivid imaginations and the ability to really focus. If you’re curious why, I explain it in why some people are easier to hypnotize. Those are the folks who tend to win the milking contest, because to them, that cow is completely real.

Relax, Relax, Relax: Why the Ending Matters

Watch the clip again and you’ll hear me tell them to relax, over and over, while I crown the champion. That’s not filler. It’s the most important part of the routine.

A comedy hypnosis show runs on energy. A milking contest gets everybody fired up, so before the next routine I bring the volunteers right back down into deep, comfortable relaxation. It keeps them in trance. It keeps them feeling good. And it resets the stage for whatever comes next.

Then I turn to the crowd and ask for a round of applause for the stars of the show. Because they are. Without the volunteers, I’m just a guy in a sparkly jacket talking to a row of empty chairs.

Why Myrtle Beach Audiences Love This Routine

After thousands of shows, I can tell you the routines that kill all share a few things in common, and the cow milking contest ticks every box:

  • Everybody gets it instantly. No explanation needed. You see the bucket, you get the joke.
  • Every volunteer plays it differently. Same suggestion, ten different performances. That variety is pure gold.
  • There’s something at stake. A contest gives it a story, with a beginning, a middle and a winner.
  • Nobody gets humiliated. The volunteer is always the star, never the punchline.
  • It ends on a high. A champion, a round of applause and a crowd that wants more.

Myrtle Beach crowds are a mix of parents on a night off, golf buddies, bachelorette parties and locals who’ve heard the stories. A routine everybody understands brings that whole room together in about ten seconds. Away from the beach, I bring the same show to corporate events and colleges, but there’s something special about a vacation crowd at Broadway at the Beach.

Richard Barker’s Final Thoughts

The cow milking contest looks ridiculous, and it is. That’s the point. It’s a few minutes where a theater full of strangers on vacation laugh together at the same thing, and a handful of brave volunteers become Myrtle Beach legends. If you’re in town, come find out who wins at your show. Grab your seats at the Wonders Theatre.

Comedy Hypnosis Show Myrtle Beach FAQs

Where is the comedy hypnosis show in Myrtle Beach?

Richard Barker’s comedy hypnosis show plays at the Wonders Theatre, 1320 Celebrity Circle #191, Myrtle Beach, SC 29577. The theater sits inside Broadway at the Beach, so you can grab dinner, walk the boardwalk and stroll straight into the show. Tickets are sold online through the theater’s box office.

Is the Myrtle Beach comedy hypnosis show for adults only?

Yes. The show at the Wonders Theatre is for guests 18 and over. It’s rated R for ridiculous: loud, silly and packed with grown adults doing things they’ll deny in the morning. Nobody is humiliated, and volunteers are always the stars of the show, never the punchline.

Is the cow milking contest in a comedy hypnosis show real?

Yes. The volunteers are responding to hypnotic suggestion, not following a script. Nobody is told in advance what will happen, and nobody is paid to play along. They focus so completely on the suggestion that the imaginary cow becomes very real to them, and the reactions you see are genuine.

Do I have to go on stage at a comedy hypnosis show?

No. Volunteering is completely optional. Richard invites people up at the start of the show, and only those who want to take part come forward. If you’d rather sit back and laugh, you’ll have a front row view of everyone else milking cows at the Wonders Theatre.
